This camera is causing much commotion as everybody puts their spin and complaints or wishes onto the body. First it is an excellent camera. I have owned generations of Nikon film and digital SLRS, and also while Nikon did not have a mirrorless purchased both a Fuji and Sony mirror less brands. After waiting 5 years, I can honestly say that Nikon has delivered. First, it is a hit on the resolution target. Maybe in certain shooting cases, the 850 wins out, or the latest Sony, but for real world per photo shots, I am finding the Z7 delivering with plenty of pixels to spare. The controls are Nikon high end quality. I feel right at home using the controls. Yes, one slot, but after 15 years of digital, I have never lost a photo card, and I understand the new card standard helps empty the buffer, which considering the size of the images is important. The one miss for me is the deletion of the BKT dedicated button, I prefer the quick in and out of bracketing without using a menu, and for some reason, Nikon does not allow to assign a dedicated function button., but that is a Nit.

If you have an 850, and love it, might be best to stay 850. Also, YES! this is a smaller form factor with an awesome grip. That is one of the key selling points we finally get quality in a form factor closer to the classic Nikon F3. Focus lock for me has been awesome. The adapter works great with my Nikkor lens and super on the older manual lens. With the clear view finder and focus peaking, using the old glass is a joy. Each buyer has there own reasons of buying this camera. Understanding the limitations and features will guide your decision. No, I won't get rid of my traditional SLR, but for my full frame Mirrorless, this camera fits the bill. I am a happy camper so far.

I have the Nikon Z7 and love the small size and the Z-mount, but am not a fan of the focus issues it comes with. It has trouble focusing in low light (more than my D800), and Nikon needs to replace the focal point lock lever that is present in the D series. Why they removed it is beyond my comprehension, but as a left eye shooter, I really really need it or my focal point will drift to the bottom right corner and I will get out of focus shots (as I am getting with my Z7). They could easily achieve this with just a firmware update to allow a double click on the focal point joystick which locks the point where you desire. PLEASE, I hope Nikon fixes this issue!

After a couple of months of use, I can say that this is a spectacular camera. I purchased the 24-70 f/2.8 S with it and I think that the lens is a good as or better than anything made today. It doesn't focus as consistently as my Nikon D500 with my big wildlife lenses but with the native S glass it is spot on.

I was nervous about purchasing the camera due to all of the negative hype, and I can say that this is a good as any camera Nikon makes and comparable to anything in the market. The deer was shot with a Nikon 200-500 f/5.6, portrait with Zeiss 100mm Makro F/2 and the landscape with the 24-70 f/2.8 S. I never do reviews but I'm really happy with this Camera.

this camera is great. Nikon did a great job with their first full-frame mirror-less camera. takes great pictures, has a nice user interface and is easy to setup. it even uses the XQD and CFexpress cards which have great water-proof, freeze-proof, and shock-proof ratings.
