It takes some getting used to, but everything is there where you need it. I do low light interior real estate photography using a heavy AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. The VR gives me perfect handheld shots to 1/8 sec. at ISO 3200, Even when I get the exposure off by a stop or 2, there has not been one shadow or highlight that I couldn't pull the detail out of using Lightroom. Auto focus is right on, and the viewfinder gives a very realistic view of the final exposure. Step outside in the bright sunlight, a couple of clicks and it's ISO 100, f11 and the same great detail in every shot. Viewfinder is just as easy to use.
A few more clicks and I'm shooting hand-held video with amazing results. I used to use a RONIN gimbal, but not needed with this camera. I am very satisfied.
Wow. Very impressed. Was apprehensive of losing the mirror after my past love of DSLRs, from D2xs, D3, D300, D800, and my current D850. The 850 is an awesome camera, but with my need to shoot video and being frustrated with focusing, it tempted me to look at mirrorless. Couldn’t be happier with the Z7.
I stayed with Nikon due to my library of lenses for sure. But with the advantages of the larger Z mount, I’m excited to see what will be coming. I got the 24-70 f4 and the 35mm 1.8 with this. While the 24-70 seems good, I can’t wait for a new 24-70 2.8 when they release it.
This is the mirrorless camera I've been waiting for some company to make for 10 years. I used Nikon DSLRs for a long time but migrated to mirrorless for the smaller size and EVF capability. But I've been missing that Nikon feel that it's designed for and by photographers rather than by a company more focused on other things. I've had Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, and most recently Sony. The Z7 is by far my favorite camera since the Nikon D700. Fantastic ergonomics and fantastic image quality.
The new Z lenses are truly impressive. I recently went on a business trip to Paris, a DSLR would have been too big and carrying a less image quality camera not worth it. The Z7 did everything I wanted from bright sunlight to low-light night photos. I expect to keep this camera for a long, long time.
Coming from the Sony A7 II, this was a good upgrade for me. I would say that everything feels better with a couple small exceptions: I liked the Sony button layout better and I don't understand why I can't change shutter speed in shutter priority mode when shooting video. However, overall, I really like the feel of the Z7 and the picture quality is spot on.
