Why to upgrade to Z7-II? - Faster in-camera computing (2nd processor), generally snappier operation, faster, more accurate auto focus. - Better video (up to 4k 60p 10 bit in cam) - Slightly longer lasting batteries (but will NOT work with Z7-1 batteries), even though the new batts will charge in the old charger. - 2 card slots - but not 2 slots of the same kind...a slightly annoying, but also interesting pair of XQD/CFEx & SD. So if using CFEx, second card will always be much slower...This design choice was a compromise...give new shooters option to run faster CFEx cards for high end video and raw bursts, retain XQD compatibility, provide SD option as primary or backup because it's smaller and fits. Future will be two CFEx/XQD slots or two of some new smaller version of the CFEx.
I have really enjoyed so many things about this camera. I love the clarity and sharpness so much! I really struggled with the sharpness with the 850 (but loved everything else about that camera). It’s more light weight as well. I love the in camera playback mode as well. I love when you look through the view finder, what you see is what you’ll get until you adjust your settings correctly. The mirrorless lenses are also fantastic!
This camera is amazing. I love it! I can sum up this purchase by telling a quick story about what a famous professional photographer told a serious amateur friend about camera purchases in a seminar he was holding. He said, “If you are a serious photography student, do not go out and purchase a camera you think you may not be able to afford. If you are serious, go out and buy a camera you KNOW you can’t afford!” If you have Nikkor lenses you can use them with this camera if you also get a converter.
What’s not to like? Some of the best dynamic range in the business? Awesome sensor giving you plenty of detail. Decent 4K quality. Great battery life. Awesome ergonomics and the best UI in the business. Stellar lenses at a great price vs competition.
This is my 4th Nikon DSLR, and (by far) the best one I have ever purchased. Upgraded my D750 to the mirrorless. Z 7 II simply works. Real-time view with exposure is a huge plus. Very fast, autofocus is extremely responsive even in dark conditions. Picture quality is stunning!! Two card slots a big plus for me. Works seamlessly with my F type lenses with the adapter and it doesn’t add too much weight to the camera. Highly recommend anyone wanting to go mid-pro grade camera to consider the Z 7 II. Worth the price.
The Z7II features a bit snappier auto focus and some changes to the menu. I am keeping my Z7 as a backup body and retiring my Z50. I am happy with this purchase.
