600mm is great...great quality/price
Need a sturdy tripod. Great build quality.
Such an amazing lens! Can’t go wrong!
Works very well.
Excellent value. High quality images. Worth the higher price, compared to the Tamron and Sigma 150-600 mm. However, the carrying bag provided by SONY is of poor quality. No padding, no carrying strap. The lens is large and I was unable to find a padded pouch in which it would fit. The largest Lowe padded pouch is 32 cm long and too narrow. Needs at least a 36-38 cm long pouch. Lens hood is adequate. Unlike the hood provided on the SONY 100-400 lens, there is no cutout slot that allows adjustment of the polarizer when hood is installed on camera. Hood should always be used both to limit glare, but also to protect front lens element from damage.
I would recommend this lens even in my sleep, especially if you don't have the budget to spend $13k for the 600mm prime lens.
The 200-600 definitely outperformed the Sigma, especially in AF if the Sigma has to be adapted to Sony. The Sigma + MC-11 is a huge bargain, but all kinds of glitches happen occasionally, sometimes requiring the lens to be removed and remounted. The copy I own in Nikon mount does this as well but it is far more rare. The Sony 200-600 behaves like the native lens it is.
The AF is super fast, the zoom ring very smooth and no need to rotate the zoom ring too much to go from the max to the min zoom. Exactly what you need for such a long lens. Highly recommended!!!
It dwarfs my alpha 7II. Focusing is silent and fast. At 600mm, image quality is good, though not great, but sharpness won't make a mediocre photographer great, either. Performance is greatly enhanced if you use postprocessing software, like DXO Optics Pro, or DXO Photolab. This lens excels for sports and wildlife. The image stabilization makes tripods almost obsolete, except for night photography and other long time exposure work. I think this 200-600mm lens is a good buy to complete your kit.
