Outstanding quality all around. A little heavy but maybe the weight helps hold steady when hand-held. Example photos show the image quality and how one can enlarge (by cropping) and still have acceptable image quality. Of course, having the 60MP SonyA7RIV helps a lot. First photo taken with 40mm lens (normal lens for the 35mm cameras), second photo taken with the 600 mm lens and last photo shows enlargement using cropping. I highly recommend this lens for the serious photographer. It is a fun lens just to test it's capabilities.
A7iii shooter (birding) with 100-400GM + 1.4x converter. Bought the 200-600 because out at 600mm, I'm at f6.3 minimum with the native lens. The 100-400GM/1.4x combo is minimum f8 at 560mm. Often I find myself trying to catch early AM wildlife, or am otherwise in shadowy environments so a faster lens should help. Have had the 200-600 out twice now, and for sure the longer reach and faster lens is noticeable. Haven't tried adding the 1.4x yet. On the other hand, the handling of this beast is a bit tricky. I haven't had a good BIF opportunity yet but suspect that swinging this thing around will indeed be more difficult than the "compact" 100-400
Great overall lens for outdoor photography, also sports under there correct lighting conditions. Focus is very fast, and the image a sharp. Good value for money.
This lens is a true master piece! The image quality is amazing. I photograph birds with this lens and I get beautiful results. This lens is the best piece of photographic equipment I own. It is worth every penny I paid for it!
This lens exceeded my expectations and after extensive research I decided I'd give it a go. I love it and it takes sharp images. I've only have had it a day and I cant stop taking photos with it. I use it with my Sony A7III and the zoom on this lens is unreal.
The lens makes the camera. I'm currently using the 200-600mm on an a6400 so I get the added length with the crop sensor. Eventually for light gathering and other purposes I'll upgrade the body, but this lens is a huge improvement. I had been shooting a 70-350 and I just couldn't reach some of the smaller or further subjects. I've taken 3-4000 shots with the lens so far and I have no complaints. It is large, but thankfully no external extension to zoom. Next to shelling out 13k, this is the answer.
Great lens. I don’t yet see any performance difference in AF between this and the 100-400GM. Don’t believe all the negative hype on AF performance. Buy this for wildlife over the 100-400. Works fine with 1.4TC as well.
I had hunting issues with the 100-400, so I upgraded to this for the reach! Need to sell my 100-400. It was very sharp, but I don't get too close to my subject because I have little ones with me, so when I'm on a walk, I want to quickly point and shoot animals that I end up seeing. This lens is amazing!!! Way better than the sigma, Tamron being in second place.
It is a very good lens at this price range. However if you are expecting similar results to Sony 100-400mm you will be somewhat disappointed. The image quality is excellent unto to 400 mm but not beyond. The autofocus is excellent in good light but struggles in low light. The lens performed better with A9 than A7rIII. I do not have A7rIV. It is better lens for slow moving objects but birds in flight would be a problem unless you have good light. The lens is not that heavy and I carried it all day without a problem. The barrel is fixed so it is easier to carry in a backpack. I think the 100-400 mm with teleadapter is a better choice if I have to chose.
