Wow! This lens is absolutely stunning. I am so excited to be able to use it and see what I can capture. The autofocus is so fast to catch and the IS is great too. So far this is everything I wanted out of this lens!
After shooting with my older EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS USM for years, I started to notice that my images were softer than those taken with my other (newer) Canon lenses. I had it cleaned and recalibrated and while the results were better, I realized that it was probably time to replace it with the most current version. The new Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens is somewhat lighter and MUCH sharper. I just returned from an out of state nature shoot where I used this lens extensively hand holding it mostly at 200mm. All the images are tack sharp with excellent colour and detail.
The 70-200 has always been my 'go-to' lens for many situations... I love the flexibility to choose either lovely bokeh backgrounds or excellent depth of field depending on the situation and the results I'm trying to achieve. This is a GREAT lens and although it's a bit pricy, it has already proven to be a professional tool that does exactly what it's supposed to.
The wide f stop on the lens made action shots clear with excellent stopping action. The blured black ground was perfect.
If you are wanting a lens for picture perfect pictures for your sporting events. This lens works great.
This lens is by far my new favorite lens, it is tack sharp and super fast. My only regret is that I waited so long to purchase it. IS works extremely well removing the normal shake with a long zoom and it really does allow extra f-stops as advertised. I do a lot of drama photo shoots, and this lens does extremely well in the dark and dark scenes and lighting typical with stage lighting. My only critique is, I just wish the lens was lighter and slightly longer (70-300 would be nice)
Bought this for an African photo Safari and was not disappointed. Combined this with a 2x extender for long shots, but found I didn't need it for most shots, as the clarity at 200 was still exceptional, even when blown up/cropped. Highly recommend.
The lens was in perfect condition and the seller shipped it on the same day which is nice.
I've had the Mark II for 8 years and admittedly, the improvements here are subtle. I tried a one-to-one comparison in my living room and couldn't swear I'd seen a difference. Used it tonight to shoot a rock band in a local venue--a fairly tough test--and I loved it. The photos came out looking great, sharp and crisp, despite shooting at ISO 3200 to 6400 (on a Canon 5D Mk IV). The autofocus was dead-on. . .EXCEPT when I bumped the Auto-Manual switch and turned it off. Did it a couple of times through the night. Is that a flaw of the lens or just my copy? Never had the problem with the Mk II, though I definitely have with my 24-70 and ended up taping the switch in place. I mention it only so others might watch out for it; for now I'm considering it Operator Error and not blaming the lens. One of the reported improvements over the Mark II was the handling lens flare. Canon was probably thinking of sun glare but for me, it's stage backlighting aimed right into my lens--and it handled it great. I don't think I got a single lens flare the whole night; nothing obtrusive, anyway. What else. . .it feels just like the Mark II. Same weight, balance, controls. Image stabilization is reportedly the same and I didn't notice a difference. You could certainly make the argument that it's not worth the money to upgrade. . . but overall, I'm impressed with the new lens and am glad I replaced my aging and battleworn old one.
So freaking epic
