Bird eye focus is really nice. Biggest advantage for me over the 7iii is the menu which is infinitely more intuitive.
Just purchased the Sony A7IV as my first camera and I'm completely blown away. Makes me wish I got into photography/videography WAAAAY earlier in life.
Love that it is finally a flip screen, making it easy to capture vertical photos low to the ground. 33 MP makes it a little sharper than Canon's same priced R6 20MP. Very easy to flip between Stills and Video by using the dial wheel and Include/Exclude menu options. Grip size has improved for better handling. The 1.5X crop (which was a known spec way in advance before the camera was available) is a good thing for me because when I do need to zoom in more, I can switch over to 4k60 for that. Another person who reviewed this camera gave it a 1 star solely because it had a 1.5 crop - then why did you buy it knowing this was the case? "So devastated that Sony released a camera that was almost perfect." - Something that is almost perfect should have at least almost a perfect 5 star, not be a 1 star....The auto focus is amazing! Best AF I have seen in ANY stills/video camera. Picture in both stills and video is just simply AMAZING! Love this camera!
Switched from a7iii. Two big factors for me were 4k60 and 10 bit. If you add an SSD, you can capture inter-frame codec, which is incredible for editing and grading. I'm just very surprised how many pro features Sony added to this camera. Definitely love the controls. The new mode dial is very useful. Locking gears are great. IBS still kinda sucks. Usable but it ain't no gh5.
I received it on December 24th without any issue. Was Much earlier than I expected. I was really excited because it was very advanced new "basic" alpha. I attached a lens and looked at my daughter through the finder. Auto focus caught her immediately and keep catching her even she moved quickly and randomly. Also its weight and size were very nice to hold. I was really satisfied with the alpha 7 IV. However, when I tried to open the memory slot cover, the open toggle switch didn't work at all. I was not able to open the cover. I thought it was just hard but even I tried to open with forth, it didn't work.
While there are still lots of reasons to like and stay with the Olympus Om-D E-M1 system ( which I did ), there's also compelling reason to use this Sony for Bird photography..." full frame cropping " being the most important... the Sony A7IV is an enticing machine !!
