Overall, this camera is fantastic. Sony auto-focus is second to none. The customization of buttons and overall ergonomics are wonderful. My two main gripes are: the surprising over-heating shooting standard 4K video (even with max temp set to High); and the screen size definitely needs improvement. I can film all day in the sun on the A7S iii with no overheating warnings. I do get that the image on the A7IV is being down-sampled from 7K and the sensor is 33 megapixels compared to 12, but I’m just still surprised that it overheats so easily…again. You could argue the fact it’s a hybrid camera justifies the performance to not be as stout in video. But to me, hybrid shouldn’t mean unreliable.
Not really a video person, but it’s a great camera. I’ll have it a long time. Been using Sony forever and it’s better than most. Auto focus is amazing. Actually all of the auto settings are fantastic. I’m not a professional. But I find beauty in a lot of life. And don’t like to pay to have someone shoot things for me.
I originally bought the A7C and while that is a nice camera, once you out on anything bigger than a compact lens the compactness of the camera is a moot point. The A7IV has better ergonomics and better overall specs. Unless you absolutely need the smaller size for reason or simply can’t afford to step up to the A7IV, you should choose the A7IV over the C. The C is still a great camera though, this one is just better.
I read a zillion reviews of this camera, as have you, before I bought it. I watched YouTube videos. I even rented one for a week before spending $2,500 on it, and an equal amount on one lens. And it has been everything I had hoped. It's a far better camera than I am a photographer, and I can't imagine that I will ever improve to the point that I'd want a higher-end model.
The ergonomics compared to the Sony a7iii is a huge upgrade. The grip has more depth and feels so much nicer and with the vertical grip attached, it feels like my old Nikon dslr’s. The autofocus and tracking is awesome as well but so far the battery is a little worse than the a7iii. The images and low light performance are better than the a7iii but not by huge amounts but when posting images to social media I have noticed more detail compared to the a7iii so maybe those extra megapixels does make a difference for that. I haven’t compared the difference with print images but I’m sure the a7IV will look better.
I like the feel of the camera, after looking over the button and wheels configuration I’m used to it. I have a kit lens, so that should tell you how new I am. Tutorials helps learning the system, so the more I learn the easier it is to setup. Progress is fun to see the crap pictures and videos I take, too the better quality pictures and videos that is made for a camera like this. I could have saved money, but the kit lens 28-70mm was 200 more and I think it works great for a beginner like me. Of course lens costs a lot, so I will learn as much as I can before getting my happy lens. Sony 70-200 GMii
I started with canon 15 years ago and eventually moved up to a canon 5Dmark4 then switched to the Sony a7iii, and now the sony a7iv. It took a couple weeks to get used to where the settings are but I have never gotten so many sharp images. The eye detection is the most valuable aspect.
We use this unit for company products, quality is speechless. Very user friendly! This is the 2nd unit we have used! Strongly suggest!
The pictures are perfect everytime.
I needed a camera for a wedding and I'm glad this seller shipped it on the same day.
