I’ve owned this camera for over three years and I still adore it. The autofocus is incredible and, even with everything fully on auto, you can get fantastic shots that look professional to most people’s eyes. (Which is an incredible perk if you are a newbie photographer OR are in a situation where you can’t risk missing a shot.) When you play around in the manual mode, you can get truly professional quality shots (which is also amazing for hobbyists looking to grow their skills and photographers looking for a good second camera). The only real compromise here is that it’s not a full frame camera, but most amateur photographers don’t realistically need a full frame option. Three years in, I’m still amazed by this little camera. It’s lightweight, portable, and the shots are seriously magic. I even loaned it to a friend for a weekend and she went out and bought her own as soon as she returned it. If you’re on the fence, buy this camera.
I have tested AF, Tracking, low light high ISO performance of this camera. The AF accuracy seems to be fantastic and very accurate in AF-C mode without tracking. If you can nail the focus then the pictures render a 3D pop in them. In tracking mode it is accurate but is not blazing fast (You can still get a high keeper rate more than 80%). I also own an A9 and native lenses as well as adapted lenses. I compare the two cameras and I can honestly say the a6400 even though 1/4th the price of an A9 is 50% close performance wise to an A9.
There is no IBIS in this camera but my lenses have OS or IS image stabilization and works very well. There is an Auto ISO feature which takes 3 pictures in rapid succession and combines them like an HDR image for you. I love this feature and it is awesome in low-light without a flash. The clear digital zoom is another feature that extends your lens range to double and is handy at times if you want that shot but lack the reach. for ex. if you have a lens that can zoom upto 200mm the clear zoom will make it 400 mm if you choose that option in menu settings. The learning curve on the Menu can be a little overwhelming but there are excellent tutorials to help you out. I personally like Mark Galers youtube channel. Just FYI. The ability to customize the menu is awesome for your taste. The menu and controls are on par and similar to an A9. The camera is growing on me definitely and 10 days later I love the camera even more. I will push it to the limits this spring and see how it performs. I am almost confident that I will not be disappointed. I come from canon after being 15 years loyal to them and I still use canon lenses. I believe Sony gives more value for your money at-least in their camera lineup.
I sold my Canon 80D and bought my a6400. The difference is like black and white. It’s much more responsive with much better low light capability. The dynamic range is amazing and the eye autofocus responds like a dream! Let’s break down break down everything the a6400 offers that the Canon 80D didn’t have.
This is a great camera but doesn't have in body image stabilization. Autofocus is a beast though.
The a6400 is a pretty cool little camera. It takes stunning photos AND videos. The only problem that I have with this camera and apparently the whole Sony a6XXX lineup is that the camera overheats relatively quickly when recording video, especially in 4K. It takes 45 minutes to overheat when recording in 4K, and about 1.5-2 hours when recording in 1080p. The solution, apparently, is to purchase an external video recorder like the Atomos Ninja V or the Blackmagic Design Video Assist Monitor. Apart from that, it doesn't have any in-body optical image stabilization and the auto-focus jitters slightly when you look closely in the background. That said, the lack of in-body OIS is easily compensated with lenses that have OIS when shooting video and the auto-focus jitter isn't that noticeable to a normal person. Overall, I would strongly recommend buying this camera, but if you truly CANNOT stand the lack of in-body OIS, get the model above this one; the a6500.
Espectacular el tamaño, la textura y aunque es casi imperceptible respecto de las otras 6000, es muy buena duración de batería
This camera does not have in body image stabilization and thats about the only thing I don't love about it, but should it have IBS at this price... and gimbals are cheap now. External mic blocking the screen is the other common complaint... fixed with an $8 add on that is a must anyway
This is my first camera ever, I have it as an anniversary gift from my lovely wife, she bought it on Best Buy. And all I can say I love it, has the best value with all the bells and whistles under 900 bucks, the most feature-rich camera that you can get for your money as a great autofocus, great performance in low light situations and more stuff that as a amateur I can not tell you. I haven't had too much time to go out, but here are some samples. These pictures were taken with Sigma 16mm 1.4 if you're in the fence go and grab it!
Worth the price you pay! Picture quality and battery was awesome. The only thing I hate about it there’s no body stabilization.
