bought to have as a backup to my other A6400. With a touch of configurations, works just fine for my needs and is ready to go.
I've been using it for two years and I really love it every this about this camera is great, I wish it had built in mechanical stabilization for video but I use it mainly for pictures and its amazing, great and fast autofocus, amazing variety of settings and amazing build quality!
I purchased this camera as an upgrade from the A6000 and I really enjoy it as both an upgrade and on its own merits. For those upgrading from an older Sony camera, the biggest new features are a touchscreen, effortless Eye AF, and Real-Time Tracking. The touchscreen is great for repositioning your Eye-AF point quickly, allowing you to tap or drag a finger across the back LCD. This functionality is available viewing the LCD or EVF and is a huge step up from the old four-way directional pad. The upgraded Sony Eye-AF is incredible and allows you to focus on composition without worrying about where your camera is focused. Lastly, Real-Time Tracking allows you to pick a moving subject and hold onto them like glue. On its own, I feel like this is a great travel camera. I can fit the 18-135mm zoom, 35mm prime, and 10-18mm zoom in a very small bag and carry them all day with ease on a hike or through a crowded city. The image quality is quite good without the bulk and weight of a larger camera.
There are only a few downsides to this device. I wish that Sony had included a joystick and another exposure dial in the design to allow for even better control. Sony only included a slow UHS-I card slot, and the camera takes FOREVER to clear its buffer. Lastly, Sony did not fit IBIS into this model, instead reserving the feature for their future top-of-the-line A6600. Overall, I love this camera for travel!
I'm not a professional photographer or even a huge camera buff, but I take my fair share of photos and videos. For a particular class project, I needed to be able to record a video longer than 30 minutes and this camera has no recording time limit, unlike most, so I decided to spring for it. I ended up getting 35mm and 50mm Sony prime lenses, for general photos and portraits respectively, along with a Sony 18-105mm zoom lens. All have OSS (Optical Steady Shot), which helps a lot with image stability. After using this camera for a month, I can say this is easily the best camera I've ever owned. Pictures taken in low light are amazing and detailed. There are a lot of features and things to learn about the camera, so I suggest going to YouTube to check out a detailed tutorial and you'll be quickly on your way. If you're considering purchasing this camera, my advice is go for it.
Great entry level camera for begginers and youtubers
This is the first time getting Sony camera. I have had sony camcorders and Canon DSLR. I wanted to a decent small camera (better than a cell phone and lighter than DSLR). Also, I was looking for one which I can use to replace webcam for online lectures/lessons I participate in. I have had an external mic which I used to hook up to a camcorder so that's why I ended up with Sony. So far, I like it. It is small enough to throw it into my messenger bag or backpack with other stuff. At the same time, this this is MUCH better than any webcam. I have considered a6600 because of image stabilizer functions but decided to go with a cheaper one. I realized that i don't do vlogging with this. If you are the vlogger, you should go for one with image stabilizer in the camera. Overall, I am mostly happy. Only gripes I have is that it takes a while for me to go over all the menu/functions since this is my first Sony camera.
I used to own a mid-level Nikon DSLR, which is at this point years ago, and it typically took better photos than what I get from the A6400, but this camera does a fantastic job in that it's portable. That's the one main reason I got this camera and wanted to make the switch from the heavy/bulky and loud DSLR bodies. I'm glad I made the switch, overall. I got two lenses: Rokinon 12mm F2.0 and the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8, both relatively inexpensive (but combined with the body, a pretty penny was spent!). I think I overall made the right choice, as I have been able to dive quite a bit further into photography just by these three pieces of equipment alone, and focused on exposure, aperture, and framing in a way I just took for granted previously.
I recommend watching one of the many YouTube manual videos that people have created, as the settings on this camera are nearly infinite! I will most likely keep buying lenses--maybe even fancier ones down the road--to make the most out of this A6400, and see what it can do when it comes to macro and telephoto pictures.
It's simply a great Mirrorless camera for a great price. I love the additional extra accessories.
