This camera does so much stuff, my last camera was a Canon 60D, so it was quite an upgrade. The biggest items I liked where the smart phone connectivity -- being able to pull photos from the camera, trigger the shutter remotely (although this turns into kind of a pain since it takes a long time to connect, and then if you exit the app or your phone sleeps you have to start over).
Picture quality is quite good, even with the kit lens, which isn't a pretty decent value lens (and not even that ruggidized -- but I'd say pretty typical kit lens). Auto focusing with points has been great -- getting used to the mirrorless aspect took a bit with how fast the shutter is.
There is so much to go into on the software on the camera, the biggest piece is that the processor inside is fast, easy to navigate the menus, everything is super responsive and quick, even using the touchscreen. Tons of help menus to help explain what everything is (although watching youtube videos and reading will also help). Not a ton of Z lens glass out there yet, but still some great options, just not a huge depth yet. Overall the Z lineup looks very promising.
I've gotten some beautiful portraits with this camera body and the 85mm/1.8 lens. The color and detail are stunning.
Great camera, but only make this purchase if you are willing to put in substantial time getting it set up and keeping it the way you like it.
The Nikkor Z5 is an amazing camera but it comes at a price. The complete package that includes the lightweight, and frankly smaller than expected 24mm to 50mm zoom lens, and not many other bells and whistles. There's a Nikon strap, a battery and battery charger, and it's all packed inside of a compact box. The camera itself is heavy and in no way feels like a budget camera. I've purchased camera packages from Costco that were a little less in price, but I feel like this is an excellent package overall.
The overall image quality is outstanding straight out of the box if you chose to simply use autofocus. There are settings like face detection and animal detection. the one thing that is a lacking is video quality. If you're wanting to shoot better video, it might be a better idea to save some extra money and purchase the Z6, which is another excellent mirrorless camera. This will shoot ultra 4K video, though.
This is an amazing camera package for the price. If you're looking to get into mirrorless cameras. If you need higher quality video, you might want to get the Z6.
I'm glad I purchased this bundle because of the dual SC cards and Tripod.
The IQ is simply unmatched at this price point. The bundle and accessories are really good too. I'm using the trip very often.
