So to be honest, my first-ever digital camera was the Fujifilm X-T3 which I bought at the beginning of this year (2022). Since then, I have been avidly going out to outdoor locations, downtown, and parks to gain experience in photography and videography. My focus is video, so when I saw this Nikon Z 30, I naturally wanted to get it. Coming from a Fuji user that mainly produces "trendy" videos on Instagram, I'm impressed at how well this camera performs due to its compact & small size. The low light performance is overall much better than my Fuji X-T3, and given that the Fuji is from 2018, it makes sense. APS-C sensor cameras are often perceived as lower-quality, however this, along with a few new cameras (Sony FX30), are being released and it seems like there's some upsides to using these type of cameras compared to full-frame variants. The Nikon Z30 definitely falls under that category, and as I said, I'm impressed at how little grain shows up even when the ISO is in the thousands.
This camera is extremely lucrative for content creators because of its overall performance given the lightweight & compact body. Even with the heaver 50-250mm lens, the camera remains under 2.5lbs in weight. Of course, if you're a new Nikon user, there will be a learning curve, but YouTube can definitely help you in that regards.
I'd say that this kit is very much worth it. Considering the cost of lenses in general, getting the bundle with both lenses is more worth it than just getting the 16-50mm combo. The Nikon Z mount ecosystem doesn't have a ton of lens options to be honest, but there's a few third party options that definitely take advantage of this camera's sensor. I'm yet to purchase one of these third party lenses, but I know that given the performance this camera has been outputting with the included kit lenses, I can only imagine how great the image quality will be with prime lenses.
This camera meets all of my needs for creation, more than any other camera on the market right now. The video is gorgeous. The color and clarity exceeds expectations. That leads me to the lenses in this kit. I don’t normally use kit lenses, instead opting for faster lenses more tailored for the needs. However, I wanted to keep this simple, lightweight, and flexible. The included zooms meet all of those criteria on paper. The surprise is how sharp they are. The video and photos are incredibly sharp. On the downside, they are slower lenses and do not have a fixed aperture. So, if beautiful, dreamy bokeh is what you need, these aren’t the best choice. You can still create bokeh, but it’s more difficult and limited.
I use this camera for streaming, it does work. The problem with using a camera like this for streaming through USB is that all of the processing happens on the camera and it can overheat with 4K. Shouldn’t have a problem in 1080, which is more than enough for streaming. The camera I do have connected for streaming is connected via HDMI to a camlink4k and the camera never overheats then. I also have a dummy battery for that camera so I don’t have to worry about battery power. If you are a hardcore streamer, go with the cam link setup.
Nikon has made a fantastic camera for creators. It’s simple, produces fantastic results, and is comparably affordable. Glad to be shooting a Nikon again.
If you're ready to take the jump from a point-and-shoot camera and want to dip your toes into mirrorless, this is a great start. The Nikon Z 30 is a great crop sensor mirrorless camera and the kit lenses it comes with are great to get started. I'm a hobby photographer and I have shot with point-and-shoots, DSLRs, and Mirrorless cameras. I have to say the Mirrorless is my favorite. I love that the camera shows you how your settings are going to look so you're not as in the dark as you would be with a DSLR.
The auto settings are decent and you'll be able to take some decent photos using the auto settings if you're scared to go into manual settings. The camera really shines once you take it out of auto mode. The Nikon Z30 has most of the features you'll be looking for on a crop sensor mirrorless camera. It even has auto ISO if you don't want to have to continually change ISO depending on the light. The lenses are great for kit lenses. Both lenses in the kit are pretty decent and get a good photograph. You'll be able to snag photos of the moon with the 50-250mm lens, and get all of the people in the shot with the 16-50mm lens.
Camera shipped fast and arrived in great condition.
I have the Nikon Z7II and though I do like the full frame more, the Z30 is high quality and unless I was pixel peeping I wouldn't be able to tell you which photo was taken on what camera. The quality is great and the camera was able to do okay in low light settings when on manual mode with the right settings. You will see digital noise when you have too high of an ISO but sometimes in low lights, you have to do what you have to do to get the picture. The one thing that I like more about the Z30 is the fact that it does weigh less than my full frame. I will probably use the Z30 as my out-and-about camera for when I'm not looking for that specific shot.
