I'm stepping up from a Nikon D5500 and the Nikon D7500 is a huge step up. The AF is much faster and works in lower light. In low light I can shoot at night with street lamps. In moonlight on the shadow side of a face it will not focus - that's very dark and not unexpected. In good light the D7500 will accurately shoot sports and fast moving kid action in AF-C and it nails focus (meanwhile the D5500 cannot keep up). With the D5500 I'd have to prefocus to a spot as the AF wasn't exactly fast enough to (always) keep up. The D7500 keeps up with the action very well unlike many mirrorless cameras - and it nails focus. The metering is excellent and seems better than the D500. The size is decent. The D5500 was nice and small but when you mount heavier glass it became awkward/difficult to hold. The D7500 can take larger glass and makes it more comfortable to hold. The liveview mode is much faster than the D5500 BUT I still prefocus and then shoot a film clip - do not use C-AF in movie mode as it cannot keep up. I'll film with AF-S and recompose focus by half pushing the shutter button (or manually)

like having 4K in movie mode but it's not as big of a deal as expected. I like the external MIC port. I like loading Nikon picture files such as cineflat and WOW, color grading brings out lots of DR in film. I like having an ISO 50 option. DR and noise in pictures/RAW/JPG is excellent. The noise has a film like quality and it easy to quash. The 8FPS shooting is excellent. RAW+JPG fills up onboard memory a little quickly but it's not terrible. I like the touchscreen. I wish it had two card slots - it got 1 star removed for not having two card slots. I do not care about a missing AI indexing tab for lenses from the 1980's. It has a built in motor for D series lenses. I miss the Q (I) menu like the D5500 had instead the D7500 has lots of physical buttons. Almost all important settings are directly accessed from the button + a dial turn. It takes a little time to commit these settings to my memory. Battery life is excellent. I wish there was an option for a battery grip. There are 3rd party options but they only have 1 battery and do not talk to the D7500 body and it replaces the battery in the hand grip so there's no additional power. I miss the 24MP resolution of the D5500 HOWEVER the D7500's metering is so good, AF so good, colors are excellent, DR so good and noise profile so good that I'm fine with 20MP. 20MP, a slightly larger buffer, a 2nd card slot and this camera would have been a BIG TIME winner.

The D7500 is replacing my D7100. This camera is definitely an upgrade from the D7100. I didn't shoot with the D7200, but I can tell it's also an upgrade from the D7200. First, the Expeed is newer, so processing is better. The single card slot is irrelevant to image quality; those who want 2 slots can find a different camera. Finally, finally, it has the articulated screen. To me, it's a huge upgrade. It's so important when shooting low to the ground and for video. I am the type of person who makes heavy use of the cameras I have. I have a D5300 with an articulated screen, and I ended up using that camera instead of the D7100 for outdoors shooting. So I do welcome this screen on the D7500. I never had an articulated screen break, period.
