In response to another review on this site, it is important to note that the camera shoots RAW just like all other similar cameras, and the RAW files can be processed on computer software just like all other similar cameras. It is sad to see that over 70 people have found the other review helpful - when it is totally inaccurate. When a new camera is released, it often takes a few weeks (or even longer) for all the software companies to update their software to accept the new camera's files. I am guessing this is what the problem was with the other reviewer. The Canon DPP software is not at all confusing if you decide to download it. Just pick "convert and save" and the RAW files are converted to your choice of JPG or TIF. While the camera is more of a general use camera, if you understand how to set shutter speed, then you can get shots of moving subjects such as your dog or kids. For the price, this camera and bundle is a real bargain. You get the beautiful Canon color and easy to use ergonomics in addition to a 75-300mm lens which is versatile. It is weaker in low light than many of it's competitors - that would be my only negative comment.
This was my first time getting a professional camera because i had an event where i wanted to take very nice photos of a group. honestly in the beginning, i had absolutely no clue what i was doing or how to work the camera and got slightly frustrated however, after watching youtube videos and getting a better understanding of how the camera works, i was very happy with the results. definitely need more practice on my end on getting clearier better photos but overall the camera itself and the lens i had was a great buy.
I'm a hobby photographer going on professional. I've done brand shoots, couple shoots, family get together captures. This is a wonderful camera and if you know how to use a camera all the extra features in here are amazing. (I came from a rebel t2i) It took me 2-3 shoots to adjust all the settings but having updated gear has helped me grow exponentially. I'm sure others with more experience can do better but so far excited to see where this will take me!
This mirrorless camera's viewfinder is digital rather than optical, so the image you see is actually what the photo will look like. And it can use eye detection for focusing and show you the results in the viewfinder. The eye detection works well, and it's worth buying for this reason alone if you're using a lens with a shallow depth of field like a 50mm. The downside is that it's heavier and bulkier, and harder to hold than the SL3. The body is 25% heavier, and you need an adapter for non-RP lenses. This camera also has a larger gap between the hand grip and the lens, so the lens is harder to hold. In low light its built-in automatic exposure settings tend to reduce the speed to 1/60 and increase the ISO to 10,000 to get clear but low resolution pictures. It's noticeably better in low light that the SL series, though still not as good as mobile phones that can align and stack multiple images into one. If Canon offered a built-in stacking feature, I'd think it would become a very popular camera.
I finally upgraded from my Rebel t3i, and after toying with staying in the Rebel series I saw that the RP can be adapted to use my EF lenses. I got the $100 Meike 50mm F1.7 prime so I'd have something native RF mount to try, and WOW, it's a whole new world of photography for me. My very first photo with this lens and camera is still my favorite, an evening closeup of my wife, CRYSTAL CLEAR with wonderful warmth and beautiful focus drop-off in the background. I was going to hold off buying any more native RF lenses until I got tired of the still good but not AS good performance of my EF lenses, but today I said What The Heck, and ordered the Canon RF 24-105 zoom. I NEED to see more of what this camera can do, and even THAT lens, at more than the cost of the camera, is a far cry from what clearly this baby can do if you can shell out the big, big money for the more advanced RF lenses. No regrets about this purchase AT ALL, this camera is a joy to hold and oper
I love this purchase soo much, couldn't be happier than with my RP. I'm really happy I bought the bundle as well !
I couldn't believe the overall positive reviews about this camera until I bought one myself. I can confirm that the hype is real and that the RP is an incredible tool on expression and artistry.
My father who is a photagrapher loved it.
I have a number of digital cameras and they all work well. The reason I bought the RP was because, with its larger cell size, the digital noise level in the low light areas of an image should be less. The digital noise in low light areas of an image is indeed less and I am pleased with the performance of the RP.
