I received the R7 for Christmas as a replacement for my 7D. It took a short few minutes looking at it to get going. Sadly with cold weather use has been a bit limited but got some great shots at a new year's event and some around the house. That said I have had plenty of time to play around and read and use all the features. I will say there are 2 things that are excellent, one is over all other Canon cameras.

I recommend this camera if you want a crop sensor camera, love it.

Bought this camera with the 18-150 lens last June when it first became available. It is small and light. I love the FV mode that allows you to manually set aperture or speed and adjusts all the rest of the settings. I used it all during Mardi Gras in New Orleans recently and the weight was really an advantage. The focus nailed a lot of shots under the duress of shooting in large crowds. The colors were spectacular. Carrying it was a breeze.

I already had a Canon R, but was looking for another RF mount camera. The smaller build of the R7 will really fit the bill for traveling. I will just have to figure out what lenses I will buy to put travel kit together. I'm thinking of the 24-240 along with the 16mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.8 for a trip to Paris. I wish that Canon would have included a more comprehensive manual with the camera, but I did download the nearly 1000 page manual from there site. Watching Tony Northrup's video on the setup of the camera helped until I can go through the whole manual myself. So far the autofocus is operating fanatically and I have no complaints

Being an APS-C, it does not hinder from delivering high end quality stills. The AF tech inside rivals it's Kim the R5. The handling and grip is perfect and yet compact. The new thumb wheel and joystick combo is very smart. The built quality and weather seal makes it realizable for outdoors. Finally, Canon delivers the best APS-C camera one can buy.

I actually ordered this camera a few months after the R6ii There are differences between the new r6ii and r7, but image quality isn't too noticeable. I enjoy the extra reach the r7 has with taking eagle photos. Bottom layout is different. I like the button and joystick layout on the r6ii more than the r7. Sometimes switching between the cameras takes a few seconds to reorient. Image quality between the r6ii and r7 is almost unnoticeable. For the price, this is an amazing camera. Autofocus is incredible. Menu is the same as the newer r6ii

I was hesitant to purchase the R7. The rear control dial seemed to be in an odd place and I wished Canon would make all their camera controls similar for each model. I found the EOS R controls confounding after using the 70D and 5D for years. I instantly felt at home with the R7 and see the logic of the rear control dial location. It took no time to adjust to using the top of my thumb (instead of the bottom of my thumb) on the dial and the joystick is easier to use in this upper location. Perhaps this should be the new default design for their camera bodies. The IBIS has extended the life of my lens collection. I am adapting the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 with excellent results. I turned the IS off on my Tamron 70-200 f2.8 allowing the R7 IBIS to take over. All good!!!

Auto focus is excellent and the eye detection and tracking are amazing. There is little perceivable difference between the adapted third party lenses and the Canon RF 24-107 f4 L in their focusing and tracking abilities. A very capable camera at a great price!

After 3 weeks with my R7 I must say that I am very happy with my first test results. I performed sharpness tests comparing the R7 with the 18-150 mm kit lens to my RP camera tests with e.g. EF 100mm F2.8 IS Macro and EF 16-35mm F4 IS and see little difference. Sharpness of the kit lens is very good even full open in the corners (even the contrast is very good) and almost as good as my L lenses, the main difference is at higher F numbers, the un-sharpness caused by diffraction above F16 is worse than my other lenses and F40 at 150mm is definitely a joke, stay away from these higher F numbers! The R7 with its kit lens is a compact and light combination easy to handle many photographic subjects. The AF is very good and the speed of multiple exposures can be set very high and as long as you use fast SD cards (V90 SDII with 300MB/sec write speed), the highest speeds give you a couple of seconds before the buffer is full. I especially liked the electronic shutter, the mechanical shutter is rather loud. A good and cheap lens to have for wider angle shots below 18mm is the EF-s 10-18mm STM lens used with the EF to RF adapter, not as sharp in the corners as the kit lens but still very usable before Canon comes out with an RF version. The R7 has many more options than my RP so I am still learning.
