Sorry but this camera lives up to the hype! I know I'm not a pro and I came from the Rebel T7. But it's like going from a Cadillac to a Corvette! It checks all the boxes for me. The 18-45mm kit lens is nice too. Great all around lens. I love this camera!
Love my EOS R7 and 18-150mm lens! Everything about it is an improvement from my Rebel T1i. I especially like the auto focusing system. It allows me to get some shots that I wasn't able to before. The 18-150mm lens is a nice walk around lens for landscapes, portraits, and wildlife. If you're looking for an entry level mirrorless camera this is it!
First impression was how small and light it was. Took a couple of days to understand the new options but the menu should be familiar to the canon family users. Focus tracking is incredible. I photograph humming birds and this camera enables photo opportunities that I could not attempt with previous cameras. Great improvement and well worth the wait. Working well with my EF lenses.
The camera has impressed me. What a great value. It delivers a lot for such a low price. Not as robust as a 7D2. It's more along the lines of a 90D but with 15 FPS mechanical and 30 FPS electronic. And an autofocus system that isn't rivaled.
Couple the R7 with a Viltrox EF-R3 speed booster, and you have an almost full frame camera which beats the capabilities of any other mirrorless out there. Great auto focus and IBIS (stabilization). Image quality is great, clean noise pattern and low light performance is fantastic. Has dual SD slots traditionally seen in pro cameras. Of course not all is perfect, and most of the lesser capabilities are due to poor in-camera software (so they could be improved in the future): - The menu system is a step back with related options spread amongst different menu screens - not easily accessible - and a very confusing menu alteration when in video mode which makes options disappear (including video ones) - HDR modes (both photo and video) are not well implemented, to the point that they are unusable - AEB options are clumsy and limited - The swivel screen should be larger (say a 4 or 5) - its been the same size for over a decade - The viewfinder is weird, as the viewing plane seems hover about 6 inches from your eye (shifting the angle of your eye will cause it to move to either side - parallax effect) - Older canons had it much closer to your eye
I had pre-ordered this camera back in May and received it about 2 weeks ago. It has the kit 18-150 lens which is great. The camera and lens were a little smaller than what I expected. I have been using my mirrorless R camera with the 24-240 lens and it has been my go-to camera for everything. The only reason I went to the R7 was the dual SD card slots. I wanted a back-up just in case something were haywire with my SanDisk cards. Never have had a problem. This camera is touted as a great sports and wildlife camera that can take Raw and JPEG's in burst of 30 a second. Disappointed that I had to buy a hot shoe converter to use with my Speedlite which adds another 1 to the height and makes it really top heavy. Canon has not announced when they are coming out with a Speedlite that works natively. Glad that it uses the same batteries as my Mark III and Mark IV so I don't have to invest in more batteries.
The R7 was an upgrade from my 6D which I liked. Still learning about my R7 but I love the tack sharp auto focus. Even locks onto the eye, for real! I was also very pleased with how fast this seller got it delivered to me!
This camera is just awesome. I shoot on the Canon R3, but I do not like to use the R3 for wildlife because I like to and often need to crop. The 32.5 megapixels of this camera allows me to do that just that. I am also impressed with how similar the tracking AF is to the R3. Is it as good? No, its not as sticky but for the price point it's close. It feels good in my hands, but I do have small hands. I've used this camera paired with the RF 100-500 and 100-400 with the RF 1.4 tele converter. Pairs well with both, but when you just want to walk around for fun that 100-400 with RF extender is just so compact and the image quality is very good for the price of that lens. As for the R7, it is responsive and a well polished machine. I will say that I HATE the sound of the shutter. It's loud on mechanical. Reminds me of EOS R, but faster of course in terms of shutter sound. Other than that, I'm quite happy with this purchase.
Received my Canon EOS R7 this afternoon. While charging the battery I downloaded and read through the setup in the manual. Went out and shot deer photos in my neighborhood just to test the eye focusing on animals. I used my Canon EF 70-200 full frame lens with the RF adapter. Absolutely worked like a champ. Later I went and shot a couple of short videos just to test it out. Beautiful and the internal mic picked up all sorts of insects that I was unaware was even going on during the video. Can't wait to play with the camera more in the next few days. I bought this camera because I realized that because of the bulk and weight on my Canon 6D I was not using the camera like I did with the Rebels that I had used for years. This R7 is the perfect size and weight for me. Canon has a winner here.
