I have been field testing my new R7 for several weeks now. I usually shoot with it paired to a 100mm-400mm lens. This camera is the best innovation in auto focusing I have ever witnessed. The AF is quick. But what is truly amazing is how it will lock onto a subjects eye, and then track whatever you are trying to shoot. I have previously used a 90D and this camera is light years a head of it.
Purchased this camera for wildlife shooting. I have been shooting with the R5. Even though I have a couple of long lenses, I wasn't getting close enough. Enter the R7. Love the extended reach that this crop sensor provides. Also love the weight and size reduction over the all ready smaller and lighter R5 (than the EOS 5D4 and 7D) . Was hoping that the focusing system was as good as the R5. In my opinion, it's better. Although the sensor is way better and denser than the EOS 7D, I'm not thrilled with it. Will admit that the 32.5MP is nice. I was shooting with the silent electric shutter and didn't realize that I had shot so many frames on my 2 hour trip to the park. I was amazed that upon checking out the pics on the computer; the first 50 or so were tack sharp. I'm not going to say that the rest of the 3,000 images shot that day had the same hit rate but, it was pretty good. The different positioning of the controls than the R5 is a bit challenging. Although I love this camera, I wish it had a better sensor; thus four stars.
I bought this camera to take the leap from DSLR to mirrorless. I was really lucky to receive this camera before my honeymoon. I took it over my 5d Mark III due to its weight and size and I am glad I did. This camera was a great tool to document my wife and my adventure from Niagara Falls to Acadia National Park. It was not overly cumbersome and the 18-150mm actually worked great. The lens is not particularly good in low light but I also got the 50mm f/1.8 for that reason. The only challenge the camera had itself was with the autofocusing system. It was great when it worked (which was about 90% of the time) and I was truly impressed at how it was able to capture a bird's eye. I did not change much from using the whole area autofocus which made it difficult for the camera to discern my desired subject. Overall, I would recommend this camera to anyone looking to take that leap into mirrorless and would be happy to share any answers to questions you may have.
I was looking for camera in my budget and when Canon anounced the R7 I pre ordered it and when I received it it's been great. I love the auto focus. The Ef lenses work great with the adapter. So far what I've seen in light room I've been impressed. Definitely 5 stars from me.
This is one of the best camera I have used. Results are outstanding.
The camera is incredibly versatile working well for both video and photography. Very happy with this purchase
Early ordered the R7. It is a very light and compact camera compared to my bigger R5. Pictures and videos are fine. Camera buffer is limited in capacity. Shutter in very noisy in mechanical mode. Would recommend this for a new user or someone with a limited budget.
This is a great camera for general photography. I purchased specifically for the 15-frames-per-second frame rate, since I photograph a lot of sports events. The only downside is the lack of an attachable battery pack . . . However, the 30-megapixel resolution and ease of use makes this a solid replacement for my Canon 7D-mkii cameras.
New to Canon-Very amazed that every button is programmable. Like the new small dial by the eyepiece with toggle switch in the middle. 15 fps mechanical is great-30 electronic, too much lag. Viewfinder nice and bright although not up to some of the 3-5 million pixels, this is not a flagship body. Paired with 100-500 it has great reach. AF tracking is stellar. My only complaint is the 10.5 stops of dynamic range and higher noise of the sensor. Can't have everything. Lightest birding setup you could ask for.
