I like it a lot. Far supperior than my previous eos RP camera.
I’ve had the R7 for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. The autofocus and tracking is spot on. Takes a little playing with the settings to dial it in for your own personal use/shooting type, but once you have that down this is a great wildlife camera.
It is a little heavier than I expected, but nothing terrible.
It is nice to be able to use my EF/EF-S lenses with the adapter. Big positive for that. I would like to try out the speed booster, but it seems that viltrox was basically forced to stop making anything with the RF mount. Metabones has one that I may pick up. You should be nearly into the R6/R5 territory with a speed booster.
Beautiful camera. I have nothing to say but be aware the IBIS audibly shakes around inside when the camera is off. Not a problem but was concerning after pulling it out of the box. Only con I can think of is when using animal autofocus(that's when I noticed it) on a bird, it would randomly focus on the background at the last instant when taking a photo even though with servo autofocus it was actively focusing on it before I took the photo. Not a huge issue to me but still could possibly cost you a shot. I've heard other reviewers mention that as well. Other than that, its pretty amazing.
In the last 7 years or so, my quest for a good AF has taken me through Nikon and Sony cameras. From Crop to Full Sensor and back to Crop sensor. More than 40000 pictures (keepers). So when Canon announced the EOS R7 with support for Animal AF that virtually was including all animals including Birds, I said, this is the camera that I was waiting for. And I was not wrong. Shooting birds with a camera without Eye AF was mostly a matter of luck and Sony only includes this feature in the high end cameras that will cost you more than $3000. Yes, I was shooting with a full frame but to get more reach I was using mostly crop mode which resulted in less MP than what you get in the EOS R7. Coming from the Sony eco system it will take you some time to Canon AF system but once you get used to it you find that there is not any better auto focus system than the one being used in the Canon R family. I still own the Sony aR7 III but in the last 3 months I have not touched it once.
Style: R7 18-150 IS STMVerified Purchase Smaller than used to. (7d2 and 5d3) Stills/video/off is where thumb rests and too easy to change...
I'm getting the best quality of pictures ever with APS-C - its not any one thing that stands out it's the combination of great AF, IBIS, RF Lens, Noise, Resolution. AF keeps up with kids moving fast in random brownian motion.
This package is a fantastic deal. Everything is in working order and in great condition.
