I got the R7 as a step up from my EOS 7D mark II -- and a step up it is! The R7 is better in basically every way, but the thing that I appreciate the most is focusing. It's much more flexible and more precise, especially in terms of what can be done through the viewfinder. The ability to tap to focus on a specific point is great, and being able to zoom into the image to check focus in either manual or autofocus modes, and both in the viewfinder and on the display, is really useful. The swiveling screen makes it easier to take pictures from awkward positions, though it seems to require a bit of practice to get right. (It can also be easy to touch the screen by mistake while swiveling.) Before going the mirrorless way, I worried a bit about the quality of the viewfinder compared to an optical one, but I don't find it to be an issue at all. On the contrary, I now think it's a plus, because you can see what the camera sees, making it easier to figure out if there are any exposure problems. The camera is very light, which is particularly noticeable when using RF lenses. But even with the RF-EF adapter it's still quite a bit lighter and smaller than the 7D, which is a welcome change.
This camera was purchased as a backup for an EOS R5. I do lots of wildlife photography, mostly birds, and the R7 has great autofocus capabilities. The files are also pixel-rich enough that doing cropping isn't an obstacle. I love the ability to re-program the buttons. And while you can use EF lenses with a converter, the native RF lenses are more efficient in their focus.
This is a great package! it had all I needed but telephoto lens so bought the adaptor and use my old cannon rebel. you won't be disappointed in this package!!!!
I have vision problems, so any help I can get is worth the price. I also have MS so I need help in the stabilization the EOS R7 checks both these boxes. I can take photos again without the shake.
I am relatively new to mirrorless. It was with great hesitance I migrated from DSLR's...though I still wish I had my DSLR's, this R7 is winning me over. I also have the R5 but, the jury is still out on that one. The R7 reminds me of a more refined 7D 2. Excellent for wildlife, birds.
I am a beginner sports photographer who was lent a camera by a class I was taking but had to give it back after I finished with the course. I purchased the Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless so that I could continue sports photography for work. I am a student on a very limited budget, but I have found that this camera is an awesome lower-budget alternative compared to the expensive bodies professional sports photographers use. I went with the rule of spending more on a higher quality lens and less on a body without compromising specs for the body and the Canon EOS R7 seems to be the perfect happy-medium for me.
i love love love this camera my first mirrorless. it is great. i've tried it out indoors, outdoors different times of the day and evening and on various fast moving objects, like dogs, kids. i'm impressed. for the price you can't beat it. I'm a Canon person all the way. I've got the Eos D1X, the 80D, and this now the eos R7, I definitely would recommend this camera
I only take pictures to collect memories of my relatives, friends, pets, and places that I visit. I'm not a pro, I do not possess the so-called photographer's eyes, and I do not have the patience to use tripods or even to spend a few seconds to focus on my subject. Therefore, I need a camera that is fast and that produces sharp images even if I shoot like a cowboy who shoots from the hips. This camera meets my needs.
DSLRs have always been cumbersome for video. I knew mirrorless was the way to go. Had a Sony with issues so waited for Canon to get on-board. Worth the wait. Nice resolution for the price. Still figuring out some of the menus but very happy with the camera.
