The size of the view finder and the live screen are so much larger than on my Canon 6D Mark ii. Definitely a great camera to upgrade to
This camera sets a new standard for still photography and video. I’ve owned most of the high-end Canon DSLR cameras and have always wondered why canon hasn’t put image stabilization is the camera body. The eye tracking technology is amazing! All-in-all, if your considering a change from DSLR to Mirrorless, it’s a good time to change. I’ve sold my DSLRs and EF lenses on EBAY for a good price and the move to mirror less exciting.
Period !
Wow, what a camera. Ergonomics, fun to use, decent battery, great image quality, great image stabilization, fantastic colors and really sharp. Great video too. I think Sony Ar7iv and Nikon z7ii maybe are a few percentage sharper and have likewise a tiny bit better DR.
I am upgrading my RP to R5. To be honest the quality of the photo is expectedly good. The user experience is much better than my RP due to new controlling buttons and richer software features. The best thing I found is the much better viewfinder where i can feel myself in a tiny movie theater. However, I am not giving the 5-star review since i am disappointed by the Canon's poor design for the internal heat management. I am not looking for unlimited 8k or 4k HQ video recording but there is no any technical excuse for not having unlimited 4k 60fps. S1H with the almost same price can shoot 6K internally in 10bit 4:2:2 V-LOG with no heating issue. If you are looking for a video camera you may want to look for other alternatives unless you only need to shoot 8k for 20mins twice every day. (oh you can bring a decent refrigerator that can really help shorten the cooldown)
Its my first mirrorless camera and I am glad I went with the R5. I am coming from the 5DMarkIV and that set the bar high. This cam jumped over that bar in an instant. Its as heavy and bulky as the 5D so its what I wanted in a feel too.
This camera is awesome. While the overall picture quality is not very noticeably different than my 5D MK IV, this camera has definitely increased my “keeper” rate thanks to IBIS and EyeAF. The all electronic shutter is very nice for staying inconspicuous and get some great action shots with 20FPS. The new controls layout takes a little getting used to, but the ability to change SS, ISO, and aperture with one hand is clutch for manual shooters. The EVF definitely takes some getting used to vs to OVF, but the amount of useful info on screen with the EVF makes my 5D MK IV look amateur. Absolutely love this camera; small, powerful, and fast. Well done, Canon.
Pros: Shockingly good autofocus, stabilization, dynamic range, ergonomics, etc. Just about everything with this camera is near-perfectly executed. It's 100% compatible with EF lenses using a simple adapter. Cons: the camera and all necessary or useful accessories are expensive. Battery life is good but not as long as a comparable DSLR. File sizes are relatively large due to the high resolution, especially video. It's smaller than I'm used to and I have big hands, so I needed a battery grip for a more comfortable grip.
I love the quality of the images that I'm getting. I have far more images in focus than I did before using this camera. You can see your subject in the view finder and adjust before taking a photo, if the image is too dark - you can see that immediately and change your shutter speed. I was already using a canon before I started using this camera, so it was very easy to transition.
