It takes fine pictures, but it has issues. 1. It locks up periodically, requiring a restart. Known issue and never fully fixed by firmware upgrades. 2. Mirrorless is still in early stages of development. EVFs need improvement. Overall responsiveness should be improved, as well. Outside of the camera itself, RF lenses are grossly overpriced. EF adapters are too expensive, as well, and often out of stock.
It overheats, shoot 1080 60 when it does. It’s not a big deal. Great camera.
Simply amazing value. Not only did I get the R5, I also scored a lens and a mount adapter !
I’ve been in photography for about 2 years now. I started with an entry level T6, then upgraded to the EOS R, and now I’ve upgraded to the R5. The dual card slots ensure you don’t lose data if you’re getting paid gigs (I primarily shoot landscapes). And the sensor is insane. Eye AF is tack sharp every time! You will not be disappointed in this camera!
I am completely in love with this camera. Coming from a Sony A7iii and A7riii I am blown away by the Canon colors in stills and video. Very expensive but well worth it!! And the 8k???? Just wow!! I'm not leaving Sony because they are awesome too!!
The autofocus on this camera is excellent. It did take me a little bit to get used to it but when I did it was transformative. The 20 fps burst is nothing short of fantastic. The mechanical shutter is the quietest I've ever heard. The dynamic range and high ISO handling are also really good. The video from this camera is the best I've ever seen, but that one comes with a catch, can't use it for long. In all, this is the best camera on the market, even with the video limitations.
Better camera than any other
I'm going to make this short...the R5 is Canon's initial mirrorless flagship body, and it delivers. For action, I shoot with a 1dx, but for stills, the R5 is what the 5D series grew up to be. Yes, the video overheating issue is an unacceptable embarrassment, but many are clearly willing to overlook that. From architecture, to portraits, to macros, I love mine.
Works great, not a long duration video shooter so heat not an issue. Can’t go wrong with this or the Sony bodies but I like the canon ergo much better, nicer back LCD, and for me the RF glass was the deciding factor.
Coming from the 5DMk4 , the sensor and AF performance made this a wise upgrade. Still trying to get used to the EVF (I prefer OVF as an Airshow/Aviation shooter but I’m giving it time). No question that it’s a powerful upgrade. Ergonomics and menus are typical Canon top notch.
This camera is great for all levels of enthusiasts. Between the 45 MP sensor and the 20 FPS shooting speed, I think I’ve died and gone to heaven. I’m doing mainly wildlife shots and the eye tracking is second to none.
