I have been a Canon EOS shooter for over 20 years now - dating back to the film days. Their digital line has impressed me over the years throughout product evolution. As an owner of every EOS 5D model since the original, this model is just as impressive as with each generational upgrade. I bought a 5DS for architectural photography, which it delivers impressive image resolution; but for weddings the 5DS was overkill. As an upgrade to my 5DMIII, I needed something that could perform without resolution overkill. The answer is the 5DMIV! First off, resolution is just right. 30MP is just what I needed for wedding and portrait photography. 50MP is too much and 22 MP is no longer competitive. Albeit I have gotten great image enlargements out of my 22MP cameras. The ability to crop further is enticing to me! The touch screen is an amazing upgrade! It makes surfing through menu functions so much faster and easier. Having the additional information within the viewfinder; such as shooting modes - is a hit! The burst rate is much better on this model than before. With a good CF card that has a 80MB/s data rate, one can ensure they aren't missing that perfect shot.

Overall - wonderful camera. I cannot say how much I am impressed in one review. I hope to update my review once I have experienced the product a little further - perhaps once wedding season fires up again! If your asking if it is a better upgrade (Or worth the $$$) over getting a new Mark 3; don't question it - it is worth the extra money!

ve been shooting professionally as my full time career for over 15 years. I work primarily in both commercial advertising and photojournalism. This camera holds up very very well as a stills camera. It’s autofocus is fast enough and wide enough to satisfy most shooting environments. It’s lowlight focus is even more impressive.

Image quality is definitely not perfect. Pushing 30MP on a 35mm sensor is going to give it some noise but thanks to Canon’s sensor quality, it’s not a deal breaker. I wouldn’t shoot fashion with this camera beyond 800 ISO but for most amateurs, it’s got good noise control. Build quality is what you’d expect from a semi-pro camera. It feels solid, ergonomically correct, and is weather sealed. It’s hard to beat this camera with its feature set and price. You’ll be shooting with this body for years to come.

I upgraded from a 6D to a 5D bloodline, two words, Power Overwhelming! on the 6D 11 focus points is what I had to master and with only 1 center cross-type autofocus for accuracy in dim light areas, that truly pushes the photographer to focus and recompose technique using the center point. But, with focus and recompose technique it comes at a price, photographing in an open wide lens of 1.2f could mean a blurry eyeball when recomposing due to an extremely shallow depth of field. The 5Dm4 has 61 autofocus point with 41 highly accurate cross-type points, that completely change the way I shoot in my portrait photography by not having to focus and recompose, using a direct single point on the nearest eyeball without moving the camera means higher keeper rate of in focus images and that single feature is worth every penny to me. I now have greater confidence photographing in 1.2f on paid jobs with the 5Dm4's amazing autofocus capabilities.

As far as the video goes, lots of disappoints that made people angry and for some jumped ship. I do use the video side but not the main purpose of me buying this camera so for me, it's still a huge upgrade from the 6D's video capabilities and people will find ways to make it work.

Canon SL2 is my first camera. I have been using SL2 for 2 years, mainly for hiking and landscape photography. Now I am moving from SL2 to 5D mark iv. 5D mark iv has a way much better sensor than SL2. I started learning shooting milky way last year. I could easily see the limit of SL2. I will try 5D mark iv as the summer is coming up. I chose 5D mark iv after comparing it with 6d mark ii and r5. 5d has a better sensor than 6d, and it is much cheaper than 5r. The downside is that it is heavy. If I go for a road trip, I will bring my 5d. If it is a hiking or backpacking, I will still use my SL2.
