Incredible sensor and image quality, I am pleased.
I love everything about the XA65. The one drawback for me, is that unlike higher level models, the XA 40/45 is not compatible with the Canon WL-D89 wireless remote controller. I always want that option in a camcorder. This is not a flaw, but a "nice to have".
I'm very pleased with this camcorder.
Very affordable considering that you get an SD card, filter and accessories with it.
One thing I like about this camera is the joystick is ocated on the right side under your thumb while holding the strap. This in my opinion makes menu surfing much faster than on the left side of the camera as some other brands. The output sound on this camera is of good quality using the built in stereo microphones located in the camera front of the XA65.
Something to be careful of when connecting the camera to the HDMI out to a monitor with speakers is making sure you record far enough away so as not to get microphone feedback. If you’re using external input channel 1/2 XLR mics located on the handle you can adjust the recording levels and input sensitivity. If you use the 2ch 3.5mm stereo mic terminal you can adjust the recording levels for each channel but not the input sensitivity.
I think this is a good camera if you plan to use if for filming weddings and your family/kids events and with a lot of fast motion. Colors are bright and crisp and faces with auto focus and/or face detection and tracking look okay. You can attach a field monitor for better viewing outdoors. I really like this camera and will be getting some accessories for it.
